Hand Sculpted, Limited Edition Santa's And Elves

By Theresa & Evangelina Doggett

My Name is Theresa Doggett, and I live in Post Texas, in the Texas Panhandle.  I've been designing for Christmas, with hand sculpted Santa's and Elves, for over 10 years.  I also sculpt other characters, such as Children and large 3' elegant bunnies, but stay mostly with my Christmas line of Santa's

My daughter-in-law, Evangelina, also sculpts and designs with me in our new business, called Teri Dolls, starting in 2005.  We have three new Santa's in our new Christmas line, and will have more to look forward to in near future.

Thank you taking the time to visit our site, and we hope that the meticulous attention to detail and the love of creating our Santa's will bring you at least some of the joy that it brings us to make them and share them with you.

Accomplishments:

The first Santa I designed in 1998, went into the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book, and into all their major stores, and in 1999, I was commissioned to design their ten 2000 Millennium Life-Size Victorian Santa's.  The Santa's also had antique sleds with a large stuffed bear riding on it.  These Santa's retailed in their stores for $10,000 each.  Neiman's carried my Christmas line for three years, plus a Bunny Line (the bunnies sold retail for $2000 each), until I married my business to Boyd's Collection LTD in 2001, and became one of their Christmas line designers.

My Santa's were also sold to Jacobson's Stores and in higher end Mom & Pop shops in America.  To name a few, The Black Iris, in Houston Texas, The Lady Primrose in Dallas, Texas, Knorr Candles & Fine Gifts, in Delmar, California, and the Greenbrier Hotel, in West Virginia.

The Dallas Cowboys have a 5' Cowboy Football Santa, and the Washington Redskins auctioned off their 5' Redskins football Santa in Washington at their charity for 5,000.  Also, I designed a 5' Vatican Santa for the Vatican Exhibit in Lubbock, Texas in 2002 which auctioned off for $10,000.  I designed a life size Santa for the Austin Texas Mansion, for then Governor Bush, and in 2004 designed a life size Santa for the White House Christmas display.  I've had my Santa's in three Different Markets, The Dallas Market, Dallas Texas, at the Livingston Group, the Summit Connection in Denver, CO, and the Good Ship showroom in at the Atlanta market.

I was asked to design the Christmas Collection of characters for the Red Strokes Entertainment, Garth Brooks Studio, in Hollywood, California.  The movie was "Just Call Me Clause", with Whoopie Goldburg.  I was Unable to work with them because that same year I was approached by Boyd's Collection.  In the years before joining to Boyd's my business name was J&T Designs and Imaginations.  Boyd's still has the name and you can see the reproductions of the Christmas line on their web site, www.boydsstuff.com

In 2005, I have joined the Professional Doll Makers Art Guild as a Master Artist and my dolls can be seen also on their website, www.artdollguild.net  I also have a link on Jack Johnston's Web Site, www.artdolls.com, in the Links of Interest page.  I am also a member of the Artspace 2000 gallery, and a member of the TAODA, Texas Association of Doll Artists.

Present Plan:

My direction now is to continue designing a unique line of Christmas Santa's with my daughter in law, Evangelina, and also, working with top designers in larger Hotel chains, and or with individual clients who would like Christmas Characters done for their homes, and with their color schemes.

I met and designed a life size Santa for Big Daddy Wilkerson's home in Platonic, Washington.  His color schemes for his new home were done in Purples, Coppers and Silver.  The life size Santa, and the elves for their stairs were done in these same colors with high quality purple silks and and beautiful velvets.

I have worked with a factory in Pakistan to design beautiful silks in many different designs and use only the finest of fabrics on my Santa's.  This makes all of the Santa's rich looking and very unique.

The Creative Process:

My Santa's and Elves are all sculpted, using Jack Johnston's ProSculpt Clay, and then I make a mold of the head and the hands, and each one is then poured up with a high quality Doll Resin (Joey's Resin Casting works with me in this process of the doll).  The resin is clear and the color is then added to make up the flesh or ethnic color.  Most Santa's on the market today also have painted faces and hands.

The structures of the bodies are PVC, and armatures, covered in a thick muslin cotton body, then stuffed with thick cotton.  The hair and beards are Tibetan Lambs Wool, and the eye's are silicone eyes, designed by Master Piece Eyes, www.softglasseyes.com  You can see our Washington life size Santa on her web site.

I use only the finest of fabrics, pure silks, velvets, wools, and luxury upholstery weight materials.  The life size Santa's are all on a large wooden base, which has rollers, so that Santa can easily be moved about.  (Women love this).  They are also shipped in a large wooden crate, which can be used for storing the Santa after the Christmas Holiday Season has passed.
